Song of Songs

Long ago, there were some writings about love, true, unabated love. They were written as love poems. Love poems have been written for at least the last 3000 years. Imagine yourself 3000 years ago. The written word was just being realized. Your most powerful feelings back then would have been of survival. Your next most powerful would have been of fulfilling your other personal needs. One of those would have been companionship and love.

Around 3000 years ago, the Song of Songs was written. It remains amoung the most beautiful poems about love ever written. Here is how it starts:

(The Beloved speaks)
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth -
for your love is more delightful than wind.
Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the maidens love you!
Take me away with you - let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.

(Later in the discourse from the Lover)
I liken you, my darling, to a mare harnessed to one of the chariots of Pharoaoh.
Your cheeks ar beautiful with earrings,
your neck with strings of jewels.
We will make you earring of gold, studded with silver.

This Love Poem, called the Song of Songs (or the Songs of Solomon), is timeless, as is most outstanding poetry. You can find this, as one of the most beautiful and meaning poems ever written, in the Holy Bible. You can also find a multitude of websites providing interpretation, religious and non-religious, on the Internet. This Love Poem is a medium length work, but so well worth your review as a study of early love poems.

Poems about love can truly move us. This particular *very early in history* love poem remains one of the best ever written and probably will remain so forever.
